Neonatal Nursing

Neonatal nursing is an important part of the neonatal branch of medicine as it is a specialized area of nursing that deals in caring for new borns that usually have defects or illness.

To get into neonatology, a nurse has to complete the regular registered nurse courses as well as have a BSN or even an MSN from an acredited school of nursing. It is required specifically for neonatal nurses that he or she has certification as a Neonatal Resuscitation Provider and/or certification in either Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing or Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.

For these reasons, hospitals today are having a hard time finding nurses that specialize in neonatal nursing and often have to use per diem staffing agencies like Aya Healthcare to search for neonatal nurses without being limited by geography.

As a career, a neonatal nurse ranks amongst the top in the nursing profession as some hospitals even require the neonatal nurse to have leadership and clinical competence before they even consider the person as a candidate.
